Newbie: fusioninventory server and agent mechanism
#1
Hi all, this is the first message at this forum.

I am trying to use glpi with fusioninventory to discover devices (computers and other devices on my network). The purpose is to fill in the glpi database in glpi using snmp protocol. But I find that the documentation about installing agents isn't enough revelead.

I have no permission in my company to install agents on every single client, so I want to understand better how the fusioninventory server and agent operate. So the agent have to be in the server as collecting data from devices-snmp enabled

Is this way of using fusion inventory correct?

First of all: I've installed glpi 0.7.2.4

Then I installed plugin fusioninventory for glpi ver. 2.2.1 and it is active ( I installed net:Confusednmp, appconfig etc as it was shown in the wiki).

What is the agent to install?

I am reading the wiki: http://forge.fusioninventory.org/project...-glpi/wiki

Following this wiki, I've NOT found the direct link to the agent for this 2.2.1 version.

But i found the link in the forge for the agent ver.2.0.6.

I can "unzip" this agent ver. 2.0.6. in a directory in my pc where is the server. Is it right?

After configuring agent in fusioninventory glpi plugin (es. agent _A) what is the command to run agent?

How can I create the link between agent and fusion inventory server for glpi ?

I don't understand very well the mechanism

Please can you suggest ?

thanks in advance

Install with this : http://prebuilt.fusioninventory.org/devel/windows-i386/

Put right server address (correct url) : http://serverip/glpi/plugins/fusioninventory/front/plugin_fusioninventory.communication.php

OK! Thanks

I installed from prebuilt the win exe for the agent and it has created a service that is running just as it was in the setup (without any specific property for the services)

I have created an agent in GLPI

I have put http://serverip/glpi/plugins/fusioninventory/front/plugin_fusioninventory.communication.php with my serverid in the browser and nothing happen.

What does in GLPI happen after this step?

Please can you tell me what are the correct steps to run the agent?
Thanks in advance

reading the agent-log.txt I read

Thu Aug 5 16:42:40 2010][error] Cannot establish communication with `http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: 302 Found`
[Thu Aug 5 16:42:40 2010][error] No anwser from the server

I had put as you said the string "http://serverip/glpi/plugins/fusioninventory/front/plugin_fusioninventory.communication.php"

but nothing.. and in glpi I can read "agent(s)= unvaiable

What is wrong in my approach?

you will have Cannot establish communication with `http://serverip/glpi/plugins/fusioninventory/front/plugin_fusioninventory.communication.php: 302 Found

You have not it because you haven't put server argument, modify it in registry (HKLocalMachine/Software/fusioninventory-agent/server

I've controlled. In regedit HKLocalMachine/Software/fusioninventory-agent/server

there is already http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Then I don't know what it is happened

But in agent.log Thu Aug 5 16:42:40 2010][error] Cannot establish communication with `http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: 302 Found`
[Thu Aug 5 16:42:40 2010][error] No anwser from the server

Can you help me to find why the server doesn't "see" the agent ?
I configured an agent in glpi interface.
As a first test, in the range of IP I put only the IP of my computer (with snmp service enabled) to find if this pc is scanned from the agent.

Please can suggest me any solution

I've already created a range of ip address where source and destination of the range are the same ip..

Is this approach wrong ?

Please anyone can help me?

I would use fusion inventory because (if I have understood) the agent is not mandatory to be resident in the single client

have you tips about how it can be good for snmp reading from client enabled snmp?
otherwise I must consider fusion inventory not working at all! and I have to consider another product (if it exist)

thanks

Can you make a screenshot of your windows registry in HKlocaMachine/software/fusioninventory-agent/ ?

Ok, your server url is wrong.

Put in "server" key value : http://172...35/glpi/plugins/fusioninventory/front/plugin_fusioninventory.communication.php

and restart FusionInventory-agent service

I remove agent 20100805-1408 and I installed fusioninventory-agent_2.1_rc3+devel-20100812-1109.exe.
It is running as service.

And the screenshot likeabove In don't find "Force an inventory" link ... Why??

Can you tell me something about agent configuration in glpi and agent configuration itself.

If I add an agent with name *test* in glpi with inventory, device discovery and snmp enabled, then I can select this agent name *test* from ip ranges menu.

How is the association between the installed agent (fusioninventory-agent_2.1_rc3+devel-20100812-1109.exe) and the agent with name test??

thanks

You must check option for rpc on localhost when you install (and deinstall before reinstall)

I'll try and the field tag during installation? What does it mean?

How the connection between the name of the agent created on glpi and the running agent can be set up?

Can you tell me the steps needed to use glpi and agent? Maybe I miss any step that it is important.

thanks
